As a Mental Health Social Worker and global clinical consultant, I'm passionate about fostering well-being across cultures. My background in trauma and resilience research, particularly focused on Cambodia (as reflected in my PhD research), has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the dynamic role of culture in human experience. This same cultural lens is what excites me about the emerging field of neuroscience in the workplace.
Neuroscience offers a captivating glimpse into the biological foundations of our thoughts, behaviors, and well-being. By understanding how our brains function, we can create work environments that promote positive outcomes. My experience working with individuals and communities in various cultural contexts informs my approach to applying neuroscience in the workplace.
I’ve written a series of academic articles that aim to bridge the gap between these seemingly disparate fields. By exploring the intersection of neuroscience and culture, I hope to offer practical and culturally-sensitive approaches to:
Building healthy habits: In this article we'll delve into the neuroscience of habit formation, considering how cultural norms and expectations can influence the way we develop positive routines in the workplace.
Managing digital overload: We'll explore the neurological impact of digital media on well-being, particularly focusing on how technology can contribute to vicarious trauma and resilience in a globalised workplace.
Optimising remote work: We'll analyze the neurological implications of remote work on employee well-being, considering how cultural factors can influence communication, collaboration, and overall satisfaction in a remote setting.
Developing workplace resilience: We'll explore the neural mechanisms of resilience and how to foster a culture of resilience within organisations, taking into account cultural values and perspectives on stress management and coping skills.
I invite those interested in a deeper dive into these topics to visit my profile on ResearchGate, where my publications bridge the gap between academic theory and its practical implications, especially in resilience and the transformative impact of neuroscience in the workplace.
My hope is to empower leaders and individuals to cultivate a more neurologically-aware and culturally-sensitive work environment that fosters well-being and optimizes performance. Stay tuned for the upcoming articles where we dive deeper into these fascinating topics!
